Caloosahatchee Shores Community Plan
Caloosahatchee Shores is an east Lee County planning community extending along the State Road 80 corridor toward Alva and the Caloosahatchee River. Its landscape reflects the transition between suburban Fort Myers and the more rural communities farther east, with established residential neighborhoods, rural areas and development concentrated along the highway corridor.
The Caloosahatchee River is one of the community’s defining natural features and part of a larger freshwater and tidal system connecting Lake Okeechobee with the Gulf. Nearby parks and conservation lands provide opportunities for boating, camping, hiking and other outdoor recreation.
The Caloosahatchee Shores Community Plan was established to help protect rural and historic character while managing suburban growth. As development continues eastward, compatibility between new development and existing neighborhoods remains an important issue.
