Buckingham is a rural community east of Fort Myers, situated between State Roads 80 and 82. Its landscape includes farmland, horse properties, large-acreage homes and established neighborhoods, even as suburban development expands around it. The community encompasses roughly 18.5 square miles.

Open space remains an important part of Buckingham’s identity. Buckingham Community Park, Buckingham Trail Preserve and other nearby natural areas provide opportunities for recreation, hiking, horseback riding and wildlife viewing. Local farms and agricultural businesses reinforce the community’s rural heritage.

With development advancing eastward from Fort Myers and northward from the State Road 82 corridor, maintaining Buckingham’s rural landscape, large-lot development pattern and separation from more urban land uses are key community planning concerns.
